Ranchi: City-based video journalist Baijnath Mahato, who was attacked in Kokar area last month, died on Monday at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
Governor Ramesh Bais and Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed grief over the demise of Mahto and prayed for the well being of his family members. State Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon and former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahai also condoled the death of Mahto.
State BJP President Deepak Prakash also condoled his death and said that the state government should provide financial assistance and government jobs to the dependents.
Mahto (36), who sustained serious head injuries in the attack, was undergoing treatment at RIMS for several weeks and was discharged a few days back. However, he had to be re-admitted as his condition deteriorated.
He is survived by his two sisters and was cremated in the evening at Khizur Toli village of Ormanjhi block.
On 10 September, Mahto, who was working with a city news channel, was attacked by some men near his house, when he allegedly interfered with the argument that his landlord had links with some people. Is. One of the accused, identified as Akash Gupta, has been arrested in connection with the crime.
