On October 22, at around 7 am, he messaged his friend on the Chinese social media platform WeChat. His partner had requested that he go to a nearby drugstore and buy a test to see if he was well. Van was taking a nap and did not respond to her friend’s messages, which were delivered over the course of four hours.

The unnamed friend decided to take action after waiting four hours to respond to Wan’s messages. She requested that her husband use his drone to fly over Van. House.
