Aamir Khan is gearing up for the release of ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, a spiritual sequel to his 2007 film ‘Taare Zameen Par’. Recently, there was speculation that after its theatrical run, the film might bypass traditional OTT platforms and instead be released exclusively on YouTube through a pay-per-view model. Aamir Khan has since dismissed these rumours. Now, at a recent ‘Taare Zameen Par’ fan meet in Mumbai, he offered to release the 2007 film on his YouTube channel for free for a limited time.
During the event, host Laksh Maheshwari noted that online trivia suggested the photo in the ‘Taare Zameen Par’ scene with Aamir Khan and a boat, featured Aamir’s parents. Aamir corrected him, stating, “No, that’s not my mom and dad. I guess it is someone else’s mom and dad! Maybe it’s Amole Gupte’s parents. I don’t know. But it’s not my parents at all.” The host expressed his wish to show the scene but revealed that he couldn’t, because ‘Taare Zameen Par’ isn’t available on any streaming platform.
Aamir Khan agreed, saying, “Yes, the film is not anywhere.” He then came up with a suggestion, and offered to release the film on YouTube. “Ek kaam karte hai. (Let’s do one thing). I have started a YouTube channel called Aamir Khan Talkies. I’ll tell my team that let’s upload Taare Zameen Par there free of cost. It can be available for 1-2 weeks,” he said. Aamir did not clarify when the movie will begin streaming on YouTube, and fans are eagerly waiting for the announcement.
Aamir Khan was later joined by Taare Zameen Par co-stars Darsheel Safary, Tisca Chopra, and Vipin Sharma at the fan meet event held on Monday evening.
Meanwhile, during the Taare Zameen Par fan meet event, Aamir also opened up about his son Junaid Khan’s dyslexia. He said, “It’s been 17–18 years since that film (Taare Zameen Par) was released, and I’ve never said this until now: Junaid is dyslexic. So when I first heard the story (of the film), it hit me so hard – because I’ve been through it myself. I was like Nandkishore Awasthi in the beginning (the father from Taare Zameen Par). I used to scold Junaid.”
