Recently, a video of a dosa being made with amras surfaced on the internet, sending desi food lovers into a tizzy.
The much-awaited mango season is finally upon us, and for the desi, it is time to enjoy their favorite fruit. Known as the “King of Fruits”, mango has always been a favorite part of Indian households and can be enjoyed in a variety of ways, from breakfast to dessert, and even in the form of fresh juices and shakes . Aamras, a popular mango dish during the summer season, is a must-try for mango lovers. However, a recent video of me making dosa with aamras or mango puree has created some aversion among desi foodies and they definitely don’t want to try it.
The clip, circulated on Twitter, shows a street vendor serving unorthodox dosas with aamras. The footage shows the vendor pouring a bowl of aamras over the dosa batter spread on a tava and adding cheese on top. To garnish the dish, she sprinkles some fresh coriander before cutting it into pieces and serving it to the customer. However, the twists didn’t end there! Instead of the usual accompaniment of sambar, aamras dosa was served with aamras, thus, creating a ‘bitter sweet’ experience for the foodies.
Following the emergence of the unusual food combination, Indians began to react with distaste towards it, as evidenced by comments such as “Ya kya hai yaar”. Shit” and “Really Strange Dosa”. Another user said, “These people are the real reason behind obesity. As well as food vloggers who cover such cringe.”

Dosa has been a target of ‘criticism’ in the past, as a previous viral video shows that an eatery is making a new variant of the infamous “ice cream dosa”, which most people were hesitant to try. A video circulating on Twitter shows a vendor. Scoops of ice cream covering the dosa batter with a red gelatinous substance, possibly jam, giving it a red colour. The dish is then garnished with a variety of candies and served on a traditional banana leaf. If that was not enough, the dosa was then served with ice cream scoops, after being generously sprinkled with chocolate syrup and candies. Thus, the strange combination of flavors disappointed the desi foodies yet again.
