AAP government backtracked on its 2016 decision to audit power distribution companies: BJP

The BJP on Thursday accused the AAP-led Delhi government of going back on its decision to audit power distribution companies and giving them undue benefits. In 2016, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) cabinet decided to conduct an annual audit of discoms, but it never happened, BJP national spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam said at a press conference here.

Islam also alleged that the Arvind Kejriwal-led government appointed AAP leaders on the boards of two discoms and allowed them undue benefits even though they were owed Rs 21,000 crore. There was no immediate response from AAP on the allegations.

The BJP has continued its attack on the AAP government after Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena ordered a probe into alleged irregularities in the Kejriwal government’s power subsidy scheme. Kejriwal, who had promised to take action against private discoms before coming to power, is now indulging in corruption with them. What is your compulsion to do so,” Islam alleged.

He said the Delhi government, which holds 49 per cent stake in discoms, earlier used to appoint experienced officers as board members, but now the chief minister has appointed people close to him on the board of discoms. The BJP spokesperson asked why the Kejriwal government did not act on the advice of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission to give direct subsidy to the consumers.

He also questioned under which rules the future settlement of Rs 11,500 crore was made with private discoms. Delhi BJP media relations head Harish Khurana alleged that the Kejriwal government has committed a “big scam”.

He said the Kejriwal government’s so-called “free electricity scheme” was a “lie” as Delhi consumers have paid Rs 16,233 crore for electricity consumption, while paying only Rs 12,408 crore as subsidy in the last five years. has been done.
