The high-stakes Delhi mayoral election was put on hold on Tuesday for the second time this month as the House was adjourned till further notice by the LG-appointed presiding officer following an uproar by some councillors.

Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi on Wednesday accused the BJP of disrupting the proceedings of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), a day after the House was adjourned amid uproar for the second time this month.

The AAP MLA alleged that the BJP councilors climbed onto the benches and committed hooliganism inside the House and falsely accused his party of creating ruckus.

The high-stakes Delhi mayoral election was postponed on Tuesday for the second time this month after the House was adjourned till further notice by the LG-appointed presiding officer following an uproar by some councillors.

Following the adjournment, AAP councillors, 13 MLAs and three Rajya Sabha MPs staged a sit-in for nearly four hours against the BJP at the Civic Center demanding immediate elections.

You corporator was sitting quietly and did not even raise his voice. On the other hand, the BJP corporators climbed onto the benches, raised slogans and created ruckus to disrupt the proceedings,” claimed Atishi.

There was no immediate response from the BJP on the matter.

Accusing the BJP of pre-planning the ruckus, the senior AAP leader claimed that his councilors gheraoed the well of the House with printed placards.

“Our corporators made several videos and in each video it can be seen how BJP corporators created ruckus in the House. They also had placards printed in their hands, on which it was written, ‘Stop hooliganism and let the House run’. This proves that the BJP hatched a conspiracy and created a pre-planned agenda to disrupt the House.”

Showing several videos to reporters, he further said that none of the AAP councilors got up from their seats.

Atishi accused the BJP of falsely accusing AAP councilors of creating ruckus and “challenged” them to show videos to prove their allegations.

“I want to challenge the BJP to show at least one video where it can be seen that AAP councilors raised their voices or abused or created ruckus or did anything to disrupt the proceedings of the House. “

The first meeting of the newly elected House of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was also adjourned on January 6 amid uproar by AAP and BJP members.

In the MCD elections held in December last year, AAP had won 134 out of 250 wards. The BJP was successful in winning 104 wards.
