AAP pokes fun at sand mining case with ‘Channi awarding Channi’ meme, says police investigation underway

AAP MLA Raghav Chadha has taken out a picture of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi directly from the meme and targeted the Congress leader for being given a ‘clean chit’ in the illegal sand mining case. Alleging that Channi had influenced the investigation, Chadha said that ‘the main rule of any inquiry is that no one should be a judge for his own reason’ the matter had gone for a toss.

The tweet shared a distorted picture of Channi giving herself the medal:

Chadha claimed that a fair probe could not be expected as the CM was being misled. “It was Channi’s own administration that gave him a clean chit,” he told the media while campaigning for party candidate Dinesh Chaddha.

According to Chadha, Channi had already given clean chit to himself and his nephew, from which the Enforcement Directorate had recovered Rs 10 crore. He said that an independent investigation is needed in this matter, and if you are elected, you will investigate all illegal mining cases. Channi’s nephew Bhupinder Singh ‘Honey’ was earlier sent to 14-day judicial custody in the 2018 illegal sand mining case.

The Congress party, which has put forward Channi as its chief ministerial candidate for the assembly elections, had earlier expressed happiness over the Ropar district administration giving a clean chit to Channi in the illegal sand mining case.

This development had triggered a war of words between the political parties in Punjab. Earlier, AAP had asked the Punjab governor to look into an alleged illegal sand mining case in CM Channi’s Chamkaur Sahib constituency. The request was forwarded to the Punjab Police by the Governor.

The Deputy Commissioner has now filed a status report, which has been forwarded to the sand mining enforcement authorities. As per the report, no complaints of illegal sand mining or related records have been received.

Responding to the allegations, Channi had called AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal a “liar” saying that he had tried to level several allegations against him, but none turned out to be true. “He complained (against me) to the governor, he ordered a probe. Truth prevails,” Channi was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Channi compared Kejriwal and AAP leaders to British rule, claiming that they had come to “plunder” Punjab, as the British did.

However, Rupnagar Deputy Commissioner Sonali Giri told India Today That the investigation is still on and false information is being spread about the matter. “We never said in the status report that the investigation was complete. The investigation is still on, as is the FIR,” he said.
