AAP’s Rajendra Pal Gautam demands resignation of Modi, Adianath; Accused of failing to protect Dalits

Gautam, a former minister in Delhi’s social welfare department, on Sunday resigned from his post amid a controversy after he participated in a religious conversion program where Hindu deities were allegedly sacrificed.

He also shared a purported video on his Twitter account which shows some people abusing and assaulting a person. It is alleged that the attackers belonged to the upper caste and the victim was a Dalit. The BJP had used the issue to attack AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal during the election campaign in Gujarat and accused him of being “anti-Hindu”. Gautam, who was the minister for social welfare, SC and ST and registrar of cooperative societies and gurdwara elections, said he is resigning as the minister as he does not want his leader or AAP to be in trouble because of him. According to sources, Gautam’s resignation has not been accepted by Kejriwal yet.

Controversy erupted after a video from October 5 went viral, showing Gautam at an event where hundreds of people had pledged to embrace Buddhism and not worship Hindu gods as gods.
