Yash Dhul-led young Indian team defeated Sri Lanka by 9 wickets in the final of the Under-19 Men’s Asia Cup 2021 to clinch their eighth title at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday. Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored an unbeaten 56 as India chased down the target of 102 runs in just 22 overs to secure a crushing victory against Sri Lanka.

It became a 38-over-a-side contest when Sri Lanka resumed the game at 106 for nine. India were set a revised target of 102 runs in 38 overs via the DLS method, which they reached comfortably in 21.3 overs, with opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi scoring an unbeaten 56 off 67 balls. India’s only loss in the competition was to arch-rivals Pakistan, who lost to Sri Lanka in the semi-finals.

The tournament provided valuable playing time for the Yash Dhull-led side ahead of the Under-19 World Cup beginning in West Indies from January 14. Raghuvanshi played wisely with Shaik Rashid after the tournament’s leading scorer Harnoor Singh was cheaply chased. (31 not out 49) To complete the job.

Earlier, the Indian bowlers put in a disciplined bowling effort to restrict Sri Lanka to 106/9 at the Dubai International Stadium. Earlier in the last eight editions of the Under-19 Asia Cup, India had won the title seven times, including a shared trophy in 2012. The team also holds the record of never losing a final. In this edition, India finished second in the group, losing to Pakistan, before defeating Bangladesh to make it to the final.
