Actor-turned-activist Deep Sidhu accused of being the main conspirator Red Fort Violence on Republic Day Last year, he died on Tuesday evening when his car rammed into a truck on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway near Kharkhoda in Haryana’s Sonipat district.

The 37-year-old Punjabi actor is said to be traveling from Delhi to Punjab when the incident took place. TV scenes showed the white SUV badly damaged on the driver’s side after colliding with a stationary truck.

Inspector Jaspal Singh of Kharkhoda police station said, “Deep Sidhu died in the accident. A woman accompanying him has been admitted to the hospital with some injuries.” He said investigation is on to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.

Sidhu was arrested in connection with the Red Fort violence on Republic Day on February 9, 2021, during a tractor parade of farmers against three agricultural laws of the Centre.

He was in jail for more than two months before being released on bail.

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and several political leaders of Punjab expressed grief over the incident.

Mr Channi tweeted, “Deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate demise of noted actor and social activist Deep Sidhu. My condolences and prayers are with the bereaved family and his fans.” Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal said that actor and activist Sidhu’s untimely death is a shock to his fans and the entire film fraternity. Badal tweeted: “An inspiration to many from Muktsar’s lawyer turned artist. Condolences to his family and prayers for the departed soul.”
