Actor KR Pradeep, popularly known as Kottayam Pradeep, died of a heart attack here on Thursday. He was 61 years old.

Pradeep, who complained of uneasiness, was rushed to a private hospital in Kottayam in the early hours of Thursday. Hospital sources said that he died at four in the morning.

A native of Kumaranallur in Kottayam, Pradeep started his acting career as a child artist in a Malayalam drama ‘Iswara Arrestil’ (God Under Arrest), directed by thespian NN Pillai.

After being a part of several Malayalam plays and a few tele-serials, Pradeep entered the film industry in 2001 through a Malayalam film ‘Ee Nadu Innalavere’ directed by IV Sasi and later acted in Hindi and Telugu versions of the film. . ,

His breakthrough role, however, came several years later through a Tamil film titled ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya’ directed by Malayali director Gautham Vasudev Menon.

Known for his unique style of dialogue delivery and comic roles, Pradeep played notable roles in over 60 films such as Thattathin Marayathu, Aameen, Oru Vadakkan Selfie, Seventh Day, Peruchazhi, Kattappanayil Hrithik Roshan, Aadu Oru Bhikara Jeeviyanu. , Jamna Pyari, besides a handful of Tamil movies including Raja Rani and Nanpan.

He was an employee of Life Insurance Corporation of India since 1989. He leaves behind his wife Maya and children Vishnu and Vrinda. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Registration Minister VN Vasavan and others condoled his death.
