No significant improvement has been observed in the air quality in Delhi.
New Delhi:
Delhi air pollution has increased despite the government’s claims, the Supreme Court said today while expressing dissatisfaction over the measures taken in the last few weeks. Chief Justice NV Ramana said during the hearing, “We feel that nothing is happening and pollution is increasing… only time is being wasted.” This is the fourth consecutive week that the court heard arguments on the Delhi air crisis.
Slamming the Arvind Kejriwal government for reopening schools, the top court said “three-year-olds and four-year-olds are going to school but adults are working from home”. Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing the Delhi government, replied: “In schools, there is a lot of debate over ‘learning loss’. We reopened with condition including online option.”
“You are saying that you have left it optional. But who wants to sit at home? We have children and grandchildren too. We know what problems they are facing since the pandemic. If you take action If not, we will take strict action tomorrow. We are giving you 24 hours time,” the Chief Justice said in a sharp reaction.
