Advocates from Nilgiris on Thursday staged a rapid protest at the Joint Court Complex in Udhagamandalam, demanding access road to the court complex, transport facilities for public, basic amenities and allotment of advocates’ chambers.
He said that when the courts were planned to be shifted to the combined court complex at Kakkathope on the outskirts of Udhagamandalam, the judiciary had been assured that roads would be built, public transport would be increased, and basic amenities like water, electricity and internet would be provided. Facilities Facilities will be provided inside the court premises. However, even after eight months of the inauguration of the campus, advocates alleged that the facilities were unavailable.
In their proposal, the Nilgiris District Bar Association (Udhagamandalam) stated that they were not against the shifting of the courts to the newly constructed premises. “But, their solid voice is that the above basic and essential provisions as assured are required to be fulfilled before any sitting can be held in the Joint Court premises.”
Members of the Nilgiris District Bar Association passed a resolution requesting the District Judge-cum-Chief Judicial Magistrate of Nilgiris District not to hold any court sittings in the newly constructed court complex without ensuring that “the court complex is freely functional”. accessible.” Arterial municipal roads by clearing tree logs spread along the approach road and strengthening the access road for some time.
They also wanted public transport in the form of circuit and town buses connecting the court complex to Udhagamandalam town at regular intervals. The advocates demanded that basic facilities be provided and rooms earmarked as advocates’ chambers be allotted to the members of the bar.
Nilgiris District Bar Association President P. Chandrabose along with other members and office bearers of the Bar were present in the protest.
