Afghanistan: Russia urges peace between Tajikistan, Afghanistan – Times of India

Moscow: Russia requested on Thursday Tajikistan And Afghanistan To keep the peace after the report of the stress on their shared border.
“We see with concern the growing tension in Tajik-Afghan relations against the backdrop of mutually harsh statements by the leaders of the two countries,” Russian foreign Ministry DW News quoted spokesman Alexei Zaitsev as saying.
There have also been reports about the deployment of armed forces on the border shared by both the countries.
“According to the information received from Taliban, tens of thousands of special forces units have been deployed on the border [northern] Takhar in the Afghan province alone,” Zaitsev said.
Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rakhmon has refused to recognize the Taliban government, accusing the group of human rights abuses.
In response, the Taliban asked Dushanbe not to interfere in Afghanistan’s “internal affairs”, DW News reported.
Meanwhile, Russia, which maintains a military base in Tajikistan, is concerned that militants as well as drug smugglers could take advantage of the volatile situation created by the recent collapse of the government in Kabul.
