Forced to mark the day for two years in a row due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress is planning to make big plans this time on its biggest annual event, the July 21 Martyrs’ Day.
TMC observes 21 July as Martyrs’ Day in memory of 13 people killed in police firing at a Youth Congress rally, of which Banerjee was then a leader, demanding Voter ID be the only document in Kolkata in 1993 Was. Voting is essential to ensure free and fair elections. In recent years, TMC has used this opportunity to organize events in several states as part of its efforts to expand beyond West Bengal.
The party has called a meeting of all district presidents and youth presidents on June 17 to discuss the preparations for the day. The CM’s nephew and senior party leader Abhishek Banerjee is also likely to attend the meeting.
After decisively winning the West Bengal Assembly elections last year, the party has now focused on next year’s panchayat elections and 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The party had recently contested the Goa elections and is now preparing to hold bypolls in Tripura.
