After Centre’s move, OPS urges state government to cut VAT on petrol, diesel

AIADMK coordinator O. Panneerselvam on Sunday urged Chief Minister MK Stalin to cut VAT on petrol by Rs 2 per liter and on diesel by Rs 4 per liter.

In a statement, he welcomed plethora of measures announced by the center To curb high inflation.

Mr. Panneerselvam pointed out that after the Centre’s announcement, states like Kerala and Rajasthan had announced reduction in VAT on fuel.

He said that as per the poll promise of DMK, the people expected that the state government would take steps to cut VAT on petrol and diesel.

If the state government cuts VAT, petrol prices will come down from Rs 100 to Rs 99.35 per liter and diesel prices to Rs 89.94 per liter, Mr. Panneerselvam pointed out.

“If the state government does not reduce VAT, people will think that this too is part of the ‘Dravidian’ model,” he said.
