After Mumbai, Uber hikes cab fares in Delhi due to hike in fuel prices

According to a report by Livemint’s sister publication Hindustan Times, ride-hailing service Uber India has hiked fares in Delhi-NCR by 12% due to hike in fuel prices and protests by driver-partners.

“We hear feedback from drivers and understand that the current hike in fuel prices is a cause for concern. To help cushion drivers from the impact of the hike in fuel prices, Uber has increased travel fares in Delhi-NCR by Rs. %. In the coming weeks, we will continue to track the fluctuations in fuel prices and take further steps as needed.”

Earlier Uber had increased taxi fare Up to 15% in Mumbai citing the same reason.

Last week, cab drivers protested at Jantar Mantar in central Delhi demanding reduction in fuel prices and CNG gas. The drivers have also threatened to go on an indefinite strike if the demands are not met.

The drivers were supported by several unions including Delhi Taxi, Tourist Transporters, and Tour Operators Association, Delhi’s Sarvodaya Driver Association, Expert Driver Solution, Sarvodaya Driver Welfare Association and drivers affiliated with Ola and Uber.

Petrol and diesel prices were last hiked by 80 paise per liter in April. Petrol price hiked in last 16 days 10 liters per day.

Petrol prices in Delhi are at the level 104.41 per liter while diesel rates are at 96.67 per liter. One liter of petrol will be charged in Gurugram 105.86 more 97.10 for one liter of diesel.
