Taking quick action on the complaint of dowry death, Agra Police on Sunday recovered the body of a 24-year-old woman from the pyre and sent it for post-mortem.

According to the police, they swung into action soon after the deceased’s brother, identified as Sonia, complained to the police helpline 112.

Sonia was married in 2018 to Harendra (26), a resident of Dulara village of Fatehpur Sikri police station area of ​​Agra district of Uttar Pradesh.

Her brother alleged in the complaint that her husband and in-laws were not happy with the dowry and assaulted her. According to her brother’s complaint, once she was even forced to leave the house.

Vipin Kumar, senior sub-inspector of Fatehpur Sikri police station, told news agency PTI that after the complaint, the police immediately reached the spot and took the body from the pyre and sent it for post-mortem.

A case has been registered against the woman’s husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law and other family members under Dowry Prohibition Act. The police officer said that further investigation is on in the case and search is on for the accused.
