FIH said in a statement that four positions on the FIH Executive Board will be elected to Congress, or five if current board member Mohamed Tayyab Ikram is elected as president.

Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) CEO Mohamed Tayyip Ikram and Belgium’s Marc Coudron have filed their nominations for the post of President of the International Hockey Federation, elections for which will be held on November 5 during the 48th FIH Congress. Egypt’s Seif Ahmed is currently the acting president of the FIH after Narinder Batra resigned from the top post last month.

Batra, who became the president of FIH in 2016, resigned last month and also stepped down as the head of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). He also gave up his International Olympic Committee (IOC) membership, which was directly linked to his IOA position. The FIH said in a statement that four positions on the FIH Executive Board would be elected in Congress, or five if the current board member would be Mohamed Tayyab. Ikram was elected president.

“The mandate of the EB members to be elected on 5 November will last until the 2026 FIH Congress. If there is a fifth place to be elected as an EB member, the term of that member will be two years, with the remaining two years for Mohammad Tayyab Ikram to take over as an EB member,” the world body said. The new FIH president’s term will be for two years to fulfill the mandate of Batra, the former chief of the government.

“In accordance with FIH Regulations, nominations will now be submitted by FIH CEO Thierry Weil to the FIH Election Oversight Panel (EOP). The purpose of the EOP is to ensure that FIH elections are conducted in a fair and transparent manner in accordance with FIH statute, Code of Integrity, Election Manual and General Regulations. Any nomination has to be approved by the EOP before it can be considered valid.”
