During a tournament in Moscow, a chess-playing robot fractured the finger of a 7-year-old boy when the young man attempted to make a quick move without giving the device enough time to finish its job. The incident took place on 19 July at the Moscow Chess Open competition. According to Sergei Smagin, vice-president of the Russian Chess Federation, who spoke to the state news organization RIA Novosti, the youngster is fine, but has broken a finger.

The boy, Christopher, is one of the top 30 young chess players in Moscow, and he is just nine years old. In a country where chess has essentially become a source of national passion and pride, that makes it great.
Sergei Smagin claims that the boy’s finger was broken by a chess robot as the youngster attempted a quick move without giving the device time to finish its work.

According to reports, the robot did not appreciate the boy’s haste and grabbed his index finger and pressed it hard. Spectators rushing to help took out the young player’s finger, but the fracture was inevitable.
“The boy is fine. They put plaster on the finger for a speedy recovery. Yes, there are some safety rules and the child, apparently, violated them and, when he took a step, did not notice that he had to wait It’s an extremely rare case that I can remember being the first one,” Smagin said.

The incident was caught on camera and the footage has now gone viral. This suggests that the child was held by the robot’s fist until a woman ran to rescue him. The boy’s finger is eventually saved from the robot’s grip by three men who step inside.
