While deep-fried snacks have always been a popular snacking option among Indians, the ill-effects of consuming high-fat foods are raising an alarm among the health-conscious. Till now, the canteen of AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) had limited options of common fried snacks like samosas and kachoris. India’s premier medical institute has now decided to include healthy food items in its cafeteria and hostel mess. On Wednesday, February 8, 2023, AIIMS issued an order to include healthy items in the food menu.
AIIMS sent a communication in this regard to the Chairman of the Cafeteria Management Committee. AIIMS director M Srinivas said, “The existing menu of the cafeteria and hostel mess at the institute offers very limited and traditional food options like ‘samosa’, ‘kachori’ and bread ‘pakoda’, which are considered unhealthy food items.”
