AIMA to offer courses in sustainable management as ESG gains traction

NEW DELHI: As climate mitigation, ESG, and conscious capitalism gain widespread interest, the All India Association of Management (AIMA), an industry-led management association, is planning to offer a course in sustainable management.

The curriculum provides an “in-depth knowledge of the various technologies and practices required for sustainable development”. Its primary objective is to give the necessary expertise and skills to maintain a balanced harmony between people, planet and profit.

“The relevance of this course is increasing dramatically, as there has been a major change in the nature and scope of sustainability management in recent times; not only in existing ecosystems, but also with new emerging economic models such as sustainable business and social enterprises. through the medium as well,” AIMA said.

Policy advocate Nayan Mitra, founder of Sustainable Advancement, said global issues like climate change, pollution, energy consumption, waste generation etc. are coming to the fore. Mitra will lead the course for AIMA.

Mitra said there are two factors driving sustainability – one, businesses with vision can no longer strategize without considering the environment, and two that the impact of environmental changes is now more visible than ever. Business houses, schools, ecology advocates and people will need to be on the same page. He said that collective development is the need of the hour.

This change signals a growing acceptance that conscious capitalism is the way forward for sustainable development and that stakeholder value proposition is as important as shareholder development.

AIMA said there is an increasing need to find ways to integrate sustainability within the existing business model. “Sustainability Entrepreneurship is a new breed in the world of entrepreneurship in terms of its operational efficiency and requirements. As sustainability becomes more pervasive, an increasing number of businesses in sectors including finance, healthcare, manufacturing and construction will rely on sustainability managers to address complex sustainability issues,” AIMA said.

The job roles of sustainability managers fall at the crossroads between environment, society, economy and culture, where they are primarily responsible for educating stakeholders about practices that harm the environment, and how to reduce them. help in formulating solutions. As a result, responsible leadership roles focusing on sustainability issues are on the rise.
