Air India plane with around 240 Indians from Ukraine lands in Delhi

An Air India flight carrying over 240 passengers from Ukraine landed at Delhi airport after 11:30 pm tonight. The airline operated Boeing 787 aircraft to bring back Indians amid escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia.
Flight AI 1946 brought back more than 240 passengers. Officials said it took off from Kiev’s Boryspil International Airport around 6 pm. Flight tracking websites had earlier shown that the flight was expected to land at Indira Gandhi International Airport after 10 pm, but it was later delayed.
According to a civil aviation ministry official, some other Indian operators are also expected to operate flights to Ukraine based on demand. In recent weeks, tensions between Ukraine and Russia have been rising, and on Monday Russia recognized the independence of two separatist regions in eastern Ukraine.
The Indian embassy in Kiev on Tuesday asked Indian students to leave the country temporarily amid rising tensions. Air India announced on 19 February that it would operate three flights between India and Ukraine on 22, 24 and 26 February.
Meanwhile, Vinod Kannan, CEO of full-service carrier Vistara, said on Tuesday that Vistara has no plans to operate flights to Ukraine at this time.
