Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government has made public its ambitious aggregator policy. The policy has been drafted in view of rising air pollution and will make it mandatory for ride aggregators and delivery services to adopt Electric Vehicles (EVs) while procuring new fleets. The draft policy, first notified on January 14, 2022, has been placed in the public domain by inviting suggestions and objections from the general public within a period of 60 days commencing from January 25, 2022, which is the official publication date. As per the policy, aggregators and delivery services will be required to ensure 10 per cent of all new onboard two-wheelers and 5 per cent of all new onboard four-wheelers are electric in the next 3 months from the date of implementation, while 50 per cent by March 2023 Percentage of all two wheelers and 25 percent of all four wheelers will go electric.
Aggregator policy makes purchase of electric vehicles mandatory for delivery services
Formulated as per the norms laid down by the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2020, the aggregator policy allows incentives to ensure transition to EVs among the ride-hailing industry in a time-bound manner.
In a statement on this policy, Environment Minister Gopal Rai said, ‘The Delhi government will continue to involve its citizens in implementing such forward-looking policies in the fight against pollution. Now that the policy has been put in the public domain for comments, I would request everyone to be actively involved in sending their feedback and comments.
