In a major development in a corruption case against Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University vice-chancellor Professor Vinay Pathak, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Thursday reserved its order on the plea of the Kanpur University vice-chancellor, seeking to quash the FIR registered against him. cancellation was sought.
A bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Justice VK Singh said it will pronounce the verdict on November 15.
Pathak has challenged the FIR registered against him for allegedly charging a commission of Rs 1.41 crore for clearing the bills of a private company.
An FIR was lodged against him and another person by David Mario Dennis at Lucknow’s Indira Nagar police station.
Pathak argued that he cannot be arrested in corruption cases without the sanction of the prosecution. On the other hand, it was submitted on behalf of the State Government and the complainant that since the FIR reveals prima facie serious offences, it cannot be quashed.
The matter was heard on November 1 and the order was reserved for the next day. But before passing the order, Pathak’s counsel sought more time to present some other facts of the case.
