I am a senior citizen, who is 65 years old and retired. I am in a WhatsApp group, essentially to stay connected with old friends. All my friends are of my age, and many are big for me. I am really surprised by my friends at the widespread use of mobile phones, next to late hours at night. He was the same friend of the ‘Pre-Mobile Times’, then a very small and leading highly disciplined life. The famous line ‘early bed, to rise’ was followed in prime years. Now with most of us retiring, lifestyle is in total chaos. There is very little or no sleep. The messages, mostly meaningless, are sent in the form of texts.
If senior citizens use mobile phones throughout the day and have a major part of the night, what is the message we are sending to the younger generation?! Mobile phone addiction has crossed all other addictions.
The essentially designed to be an effective tool for better communication, the mobile phone has completely changed our lifestyle. The hands which were once put in useful skills are now mostly engaged in browsing the phone.
We live at a time where the entire existence depends on scientific and technological progress. Changes are unavoidable but not all changes are better. A heavy dependence on technology is occupying our lives.
Time is invaluable, it needs to be spent in a judicious way. The lost time has gone forever. In today’s world, a lot of precious time is spent on mobile phones, as it becomes a partner who happens in our hands from the time when we wake up in the morning when we retire on bed.
Many of us sleep late and wake up late, making us tired and tired. Often, the load of the work is quoted as an excuse or a reason, with the actual cause that mobile phones are highly used. The families living together live together like strangers, each browsing busy with mobile. Even in a crowd, one is in isolation.
We are constantly in fear due to increasing cyber crimes, which were never known during your days. Increasing wrong information is also a major pain.
In terms of lifestyle, the ‘pre-mobile’ era was the best. People used to communicate much better, patients were listeners, families spent quality time with healthy discussion and purposeful, meaningful dialogue.
The art of listening before talking made any discussion healthy. Between other activities, children used to enjoy a lot of indoor games. It was fun to travel with families. Land-line phones were sufficient for communication.
Senior citizens kept themselves busy, chasing hobbies and interests. The journey of temples and prayers was much better, compared to today when devotees should be asked to close their mobiles. sad but true.
