Two days after a tiffin box filled with explosives was found in fields along the India-Pakistan border in Ferozepur district, former chief minister Amarinder Singh on Friday expressed hope that the Punjab government would come out of “denial mode” and take the menace seriously. The Punjab Police had said it had recovered the bomb in Ali’s village on Wednesday after questioning three people.
In a tweet, Singh said, hope @PunjabGovt, HM (Home Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa) Punjab will especially come out of denial mode and take this threat seriously. With many consignments being dispatched regularly from across the border, a detailed action plan needs to be put in place for extra vigilance and to meet the challenge.”
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, who also holds the Home portfolio, referred to Singh’s earlier remarks about the security threat to Punjab from Pakistan, following alarming statements by some vested interests about peace and security in Punjab. warned against. The Punjab Police had earlier foiled a major terror attack attempt after they recovered a tiffin box filled with Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along the Indo-Pak border in Amritsar ahead of the Independence Day. The police had then said that the bomb could have been delivered from Pakistan to India through drones.
