Amarinder, who stepped down as chief minister four days ago citing repeated insults by the party, reiterated that he was keeping his “options open” about his political future. He said his aim was to prevent Sidhu from becoming chief minister at the cost of his career, which included “any sacrifice to save the country from such a dangerous man”.
“I was ready to go after a victory, but never after a defeat.” amarinder said, claiming that he had offered to leave during the chat Sonia Gandhi Three weeks ago and he told her to continue. “If he had called me now and asked me to step down, I would have been,” he said.
Amarinder said the Congress Legislature Party meeting was being called “secretly” without taking him into confidence.
“I do not take MLAs on flights to Goa or any other place. That’s not how I work. I don’t do gimmicks, and the Gandhi brothers and sisters know this is not my way,” he said. “Priyanka and A male name My kids are like…it shouldn’t have ended like this. I’m hurt.”
Describing the Gandhi siblings as “inexperienced”, Amarinder said their advisors were clearly misleading them. The former chief minister said he was talking to his friends before deciding what to do next.
“You can be old at 40 and young at 80,” he quipped, making it clear that he didn’t see age as a barrier.
On allegations of being inaccessible when he was chief minister, Amarinder said he has been elected seven times to the assembly and twice to the parliament.
“Something must be right with me,” he said, adding that the Congress leadership had clearly decided to make a change (in Punjab) and were trying to make a case.
