Amazon says that more than 11.6 lakh jobs have been created in India so far

E-commerce giant Amazon on Sunday said it has created a total of over 11.6 lakh direct and indirect jobs in India so far, and is on track to reach the target of creating 20 lakh direct and indirect jobs by 2025.

Manish Tewari, Country Manager, India Consumer Business Amazon India said, “We have together created over 11.6 lakh jobs, exported nearly $5 billion and digitized over 4 million MSMEs in India.

These jobs are in industries like IT, e-commerce, logistics, manufacturing, content creation, skill development and others.

Earlier this month, Amazon announced that it aims to export $20 billion from India by 2025, thus doubling its target. In 2020, Amazon promised to enable $10 billion in cumulative exports from India by 2025.

In January 2020, the company had promised to digitize 1 crore MSMEs.

Till date, it has empowered over 40 lakh MSMEs including vendors, artisans and weavers, distribution and logistics service partners etc.

“Technology and mobile internet will continue to positively impact India’s economic growth, and we see Amazon playing a big role in the country’s digital transformation and modern, thriving digital economy,” Tewari said.

The company last year announced a $250 million Amazon Sambhav Venture Fund to invest in startups and entrepreneurs focusing on technology innovations.

As part of the fund, Amazon has already invested in startups like MyGlamm, M1xchange and Small Case.
