Ambedkar University has started the Center for Research and Collections in Indian Languages and Indian Knowledge Systems (CRA-ILIKS) under the School of Letters to investigate the functioning of the myriad knowledge systems of pre-colonial India.
The university said that the Center is inspired by a financial grant of ₹6 crore from the Department of Art, Culture and Languages, Government of Delhi.
The university said that the CRA-ILIKS will have four components. It will create a language archive, a vast, multi-dimensional and ever-growing digital archive powered by a multilingual search engine and user-friendly interface on the web. This will be accompanied by a massive program of translation, transcription and curation. Multidisciplinary academic research and a publishing program will make up the other two essential components.
AUD Vice Chancellor Professor Anu Singh Lather said that the center was launched in line with the emphasis on New Education Policy on Indian knowledge systems. He said the research aims to challenge the dominance of Western social theory and the notion that the English language is the only medium of knowledge production. CRA-ILIKS will soon launch an encyclopedia of Indian thought and knowledge systems along with the above collection, said AUD’s VC.
Two academic journals, one in Hindi and the other in English, will also be published
