The organizer of the parade, Federation of Indian Associations-New England President Abhishek Singh said that this year’s celebrations are several firsts in the history of India’s independence.
Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker has announced that 75 years of India’s independence as “India Day”, which will be celebrated on August 15 at India Street in Boston and on August 14 this year at the State House in the Road.
Former Indian cricketer RP Singh has been invited to the ceremony as the Grand Marshal of the parade. FIA New England is celebrating 75 years of independent India under the banner of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, an initiative of the Government of India to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence.
The two-day event in Boston will see an airplane hoisting the US-India flag at 1 220 feet at the India-USA Freedom Gallery, Boston Harbor on India Street. In addition, there will also be a light-up ceremony at the State House in Rhode Island, a parade led by a large band of veterans and floats representing the nation’s diversity.
For the first time ever, participants from 32 countries will march in the India Day Parade showcasing the vibrant cultural diversity on India Street in historic Boston Harbour. FIA New England will also host the Freedom Gallery and Exhibition on India Street for the first time.
Many forgotten freedom fighters who are still unknown to the new general will be remembered with these events. The festival will help bring to life the stories of unsung heroes who laid down their lives for the country’s freedom, a media release quoted by PTI said.
The organizers said that these events have been organized with the aim of recreating the stories ahead, which are in the form of faded memories of the past and inspire the generations to come.
Abhishek Singh said that India should once again become the Vishwa Guru and the center of innovation and knowledge, therefore it is necessary to create awareness about various aspects of India’s heritage in the minds of the younger generation.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Piyush Goyal sent a recorded video message to be played on the occasion in Boston, in which he said that India-US relations have progressed a lot.

According to the government, the purpose of this program is to increase the feeling of patriotism. The ‘Har Ghar Tricolor’ campaign has been started under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to commemorate the 75th year of India’s independence.
