American woman celebrates 112th birthday, friends give surprise party

Herlda Senhouse has seen many ups and downs in life.

The people of Wellesley, a town in Massachusetts, USA, decided to organize a surprise birthday party for the oldest resident of the town. Haralda Senhouse, who turned 112 on Tuesday, was surprised by family and friends ABC-related WCVB5, The youngest of nine siblings, Ms. Senhouse grew up in Piedmont, West Virginia. By the time she was 6 years old, her parents died. In 1931, Ms. Senhouse moved to Woburn to live with an aunt and became the first person in her family to graduate from high school.

In a video posted by the channel on its YouTube handle, Miss Senhouse’s friends and family members can be seen gathering around her at the senior living center and singing “Happy Birthday to You”.

The 112-year-old, meanwhile, accepted the wishes with a smile.

According to ‘The Bradford’, a Wellesley High School student news publication, Ms Senhouse was one of only two black students at Woburn High School.

“It was different for us, because in those days, unless you had a wealthy family, you couldn’t afford college. It wasn’t easy for us to go to college. And I wanted to be a nurse.” Saying by the student magazine.

However, things took a different turn in the late 1920s and Ms. Senhouse had to become a domestic worker. She worked as a cook, cleaner and caretaker for the children.

In her life of more than a century, Haralda Senhouse has traveled to Italy, Spain, Turkey, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Barbados, Morocco, South Africa, Hawaii, Florida, Arizona, and even her home state of West Virginia.

wcvb Ms. Senhouse is the second oldest person living in the state of Massachusetts.
