Amid the spurt in Covid cases, the Puducherry government on Friday issued an advisory and made it mandatory for people to wear masks in public places.
Speaking to news agency ANI, District Collector E Vallavan said, “Wearing of masks in public places is mandatory in Puducherry.”
Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya will also chair a review meeting with health ministers of all states and union territories today. The country witnessed another spurt in Covid cases today after registering 6,050 cases in the last 24 hours. With this, the country’s active COVID-19 caseload has gone up to 28,303 active cases, a jump of around 2716 cases in 24 hours.
According to the latest INSACOG bulletin, the newly emerged recombinant coronavirus variant XBB.1.16 has been observed in different parts of the country, accounting for 38.2 per cent of the infections so far.
Earlier on Wednesday, Mayor of Municipal Corporation of Delhi Shelly Oberoi had assured the public that MCD is ready to deal with any Covid-related situation in Delhi. He said that all MCD hospitals are fully equipped with COVID-19 facilities including reserved beds and oxygen cylinders. Besides this, he said that the hospitals are also equipped to provide RT-PCR and antigen tests.
On April 6, the Sikkim government, in its advisory, had also asked people to wear face masks in public places.
The country has seen a spurt in Covid cases in the last few days, with daily fresh infections being recorded at 2,994 on 1 April, 3,824 on 2 April, 3,641 on 3 April, 3,038 on 4 April and 4,435 on 5 April.
