Around 50 members of the main opposition alliance Samagi Jana Balvegaya (SJB) have signed the resolution and are waiting for more opposition parties to join.

The opposition in Sri Lanka needs to be signed by 40 members of various opposition parties before moving a no-confidence motion in parliament.

Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa announced the move on his official Twitter account, saying “Without changes, we will not stop”.

The opposition leader had earlier called for abolishing the executive presidency, saying that power should be divided between the executive, the legislature and the judiciary.
