Amul Line: The Amul brand is facing backlash in Karnataka as hoteliers in the state chose to buy Nandini milk to “support the state’s farmers”. The BJP on Sunday accused the Congress of running a “misinformation campaign” over dairy cooperative Amul’s presence in Karnataka. BJP IT department chief Amit Malviya on Sunday said the BJP has done more than the opposition party to strengthen the Karnataka Milk Union, whose products are sold under the brand name Nandini.

Malviya’s tweet

“Amul is not entering Karnataka. Both Amul and KMF sell their products on quick-commerce platforms. KMF’s turnover grew by Rs 10,000 crore after BJP came to power in 2019. In 2022, turnover (Rs) 25,000 crores. Out of which (Rs) 20,000 crores went back to the farmers of Karnataka,” BJP IT department head Amit Malviya tweeted.

Congress leader Siddaramaiah took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi after Amul announced plans to sell milk and curd in a Bengaluru market. On Modi’s visit to the state on Sunday, the former Karnataka chief minister asked if the purpose of his visit was to “loot the state”.

“There’s a reason India doesn’t trust the Congress”

Malviya said, “There is a reason India doesn’t trust the Congress. They lie! The latest misinformation campaign is that the Karnataka Milk Federation, which owns Nandini, is going to merge with Amul.” BJP has done a lot to strengthen KMF and make Nandini a global brand.

KMF is the second largest milk cooperative in the country and has depots in Maharashtra, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. The BJP leader said, “15 per cent of KMF’s total sales are outside Karnataka. Nandini is exported to Singapore, UAE and many other countries. Amul and KMF are not merging.”

Amul not entering Karnataka

He also claimed that Gujarat Milk Marketing Federation-owned Amul is not entering Karnataka and that both Amul and KMF sell their products on quick-commerce platforms. He said, “Under BJP, Karnataka is a milk surplus state. Dairy farmers are doing very well. Congress, which is shedding crocodile tears for brand Nandini, opposed the anti-cow slaughter bill, approving the slaughter of our Nandinis.” Granted. BJP’s plan to make Nandini a big brand.”
