Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra has once again joined it. This time around, he has taken his philanthropic streak up a notch and is currently looking at opening an Institute of Medical Studies on the campus of Mahindra University. His tweet came in response to a graphic tweeted by The Times of India that included the number of Indian medical students abroad. The graphic shows China at the top with 23,000 Indian students, followed by currently war-torn Ukraine with 18,000 students. Mahindra tweeted, ‘I didn’t know there was such a dearth of medical colleges in India. @C_P_Gurnani Can we explore the idea of setting up an Institute of Medical Studies in @MahindraUni’s campus?”
Many requested Mahindra that if the plan comes, the fees should be affordable for all.
If you do please try to keep the fees nominal. These students go abroad not only because of lack of seats but also because of the huge cost.- Agamoni Ghosh (@agamoni) 3 March 2022
For those who can’t pay, keep the fee affordable, cross-subsidize it with higher income and medical treatment. Ensure good quality- anil sharma (@anil_idse) 3 March 2022
The Times of India report, to which Mahindra was responding, reported that medical colleges are opening up in Russia, Ukraine and China, as well as in smaller countries such as Azerbaijan and Zagreb.
Mahindra seems to be going ahead in a big way with its effort this time. He has helped many people on a personal level before this. For example, recently, Mahindra shared a video of a handicapped person who had designed a vehicle like a car and fitted a Scooty engine to it. The person, who has no limbs, was still able to drive the vehicle. In the video, he also shared that he has a family. Sharing the video, Mahindra wrote, ‘Found this on my timeline today. I don’t know how old or where it is, but I am amazed by this gentleman who has not only faced his disabilities but is grateful for what he has. Ram, can @Mahindralog_MLL make him a business associate for last mile deliveries?” Subsequently, he shared on Twitter that Birju Ram, seen in the video, has now been posted at one of the company’s EV charging yards in Delhi .
