For the Unversed, Anand was released on March 12, 1971. The film is about a terminally ill patient as the protagonist, Anand Sehgal (Rajesh Khanna). The joy that stares at death’s face is unshakable. Challenging it at heart, he wants the people around him to support him in this difficult task and not get discouraged. Be it the doctors treating him, Dr. Bhaskar K. Banerjee alias Babu Moshai (Amitabh) and Dr. Prakash Kulkarni (Ramesh Dev), or Dev’s wife Suman Kulkarni (Seema Dev); And strict matron D’Sa (Lalita Pawar), Anand wants everyone to be around them and make the most of their remaining time.

In its own profound way, the film is a lyrical treatment of a certain thing in the world, death; It is like a poem with which we have a predetermined effort. Death in bliss does not cast a dark shadow over any of the joys that life’s beautiful journey has to offer.
