Andaman and Nicobar Administration announced some restrictions for tourists amid rise in COVID-19 cases. According to an order issued by the Directorate of Tourism, an equal number of visitors will be allowed in the second half from 1 pm to 4 pm.
The order stated that only 50% per cent of the capacity would be allowed at the Cellular Jail and Netaji Subhas Bose Island in light and sound shows.
It states that visitors will have to follow all COVID guidelines. In addition, all tourist boats will have to operate with 70% capacity, the tourism directorate said.
It said the restrictions were imposed in the wake of the rise in coronavirus infections and the detection of omicron cases in the islands. The number of active COVID-19 cases in Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 41 as 20 more people tested positive for the infection, while only three persons recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, an official said on Tuesday. .
He said the fresh infections raised the tally in the union territory to 7,763. Of the new patients, 10 have travel history and others were traced during contact tracing.
The official said the death toll remained at 129 as no new deaths were reported due to the infection in the last 24 hours.
At least 7,593 people in the archipelago have recovered from the disease.
