Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazir has said that the central government is planning to make India a drone hub by 2030 and around ₹900 crore will be invested in the sector in the next two years.
Mr Nazeer, along with former Supreme Court Justice Jasti Chelameswar and D. Rabindranath Tagore, chairman of the Dhanekula Institute of Engineering and Technology (DIET), inaugurated a drone research and development center on the institute’s campus at Ganguru in Krishna district on May 3. Wednesday).
DIET Secretary Dhanekula Bhavani Prasad said that the research center was set up in collaboration with Israel-based Dronix Engineering Company. Nir Gendler, CEO of Dronics, presented a demonstration on different types of drones.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that India is making rapid progress in manufacturing of electric vehicles and drones. He said that drones are being used in defence, disaster management, agriculture and other sectors.
“The budding engineers need to improve their skills in designing new types of drones, problem solving and practical experience,” said Mr. Abdul Nazeer.
He said that Andhra Pradesh Drone Corporation is focussing on Startups and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Israel-based Dronics Engineering Company and Dhanekula Engineering College, which will help in improving the technology and generate more employment .
The Governor along with JNTU-Kakinada Vice-Chancellor GVR Prasad Raju, DIET Director DKRK Ravi Prasad presented gold medals to the toppers in various disciplines.
Underlining the need to focus on research activities, Justice Chelameswar urged educational institutions to set up research units.
