Andhra Pradesh students to represent India in cyber security at World Skills Competition in Korea

Srihari Rutala, a 21-year-old second year student from Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, has been selected for the final round of the 2022 World Skills Competition to be held in South Korea this month. Masters in Computer Applications at GITAM School of Science, Rutla will represent India in the skill of cyber security against 12 countries.

To reach the finals, the selection process starts from the district level in India and moves to the zonal, state, regional and finally, the national level. A total of six candidates were selected for the Cyber ​​Security Skills category. After another selection test among these six, Rutla and Mufid Hamzakutty from Kerala were selected to represent India for their cyber security skills.

The World Skills Competition, established in 1950, is currently in its 46th edition and will host 62 skill competitions in 15 countries and territories, with over 1,000 competitors from various locations around the world. Rutla will represent India against Azerbaijan, Australia, Hong Kong, Ireland, Singapore, Iran, Chinese Taipei, Korea, the United Kingdom, Estonia and France.

“The tough selection process and preparation for the World Skill Competition helped me identify the learning path and motivated me to achieve greater heights. To prepare for the world class competition, I read all the previous test projects. I am,” he says.

“My mentor, Sangesh Shivputrappa, who has 17 years of experience in the security sector, has been training since the India Skills Competition that ended in January. He is also the Chief Deputy Specialist for Cyber ​​Security at WorldSkills. We are doing exercises on multiple domains like incident response, red teaming, reverse engineering, malware analysis, packet analysis etc,” he said.

India Skill Competition was organized by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), which is also giving vigorous training to Rutla. “NSDC has appointed Sangmesh sir as our trainer. We have moved to Bangalore for live training to cover the syllabus,” he further added.

Rutla, who took part in the competition to be held in Goyang, Korea from October 12-16, claims that she has always had an interest in computer technology, but it was changed to cyber after learning about people losing their money due to cyberattacks and malicious hackers. limited to security. He claims that he has started learning about coding, cyber security and ethical hacking.

Over the years, his academic career has been marked with important milestones, including a Gold Medal in Cyber ​​Security at the India Skills Competition 2022 National Level and a runner-up position in the Deloitte Cyber ​​Sector. Recently on World Youth Skills Day, Srihari was felicitated by the Government of Andhra Pradesh with Rs 1 lakh at an event organized by the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC).
