Gmail For Android A big milestone has been achieved today. Application has crossed the 10 billion download mark Google play store. This makes the Gmail app the fourth Google app to surpass that download count. google play services, Google Maps and YouTube.
Considering Gmail is an important Google app that comes pre-installed on nearly every Android smartphone out of the box as a part of the Google Apps suite, it’s certainly surprising that the app has been hit with over 10 billion downloads. It took so long to cross the figure. ,
However, that won’t take away the fact that it’s still a huge achievement for Google.
The Gmail app initially came about as a means to send and receive emails on the go. Later, Google made some changes to the app to integrate it more deeply into the operating system and other Google services such as Calendar, Events, Maps, etc.
Recently, the app has also received Meet and Chat integration, allowing people to stay connected without having to download any other apps on their devices.
One reason for Gmail being ‘late’ in passing the milestone could be the Gmail Go version which is lighter and essentially does almost everything as a regular app. In addition, Gmail Web also provides a very intuitive set of options and features without the need to download the Gmail app.
Lastly, most Android smartphone makers offer their own email client app that allows users to combine multiple email accounts into one app.
