Anil Kumble feels selectors missed a trick by dropping Wriddhiman Saha from India’s squad for WTC final against Australia

After KL Rahul suffered a thigh injury during the ongoing IPL 2023 campaign, it jeopardized India’s plans for the World Test Championship (WTC) final as Rahul was seen as the ideal candidate to keep the stumps in the final against Australia. was seen as

With Rishabh Pant sidelined due to the horror car accident last year, KS Bharath was keeping the stumps with Rahul and the pair shared the duties behind the wickets during the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 earlier this year.

Former India coach Anil Kumble, however, feels that the selectors ‘missed a trick’ by not including Wriddhiman Saha in the squad for the WTC final ahead of Kishan.

Saha was the first-choice wicketkeeper for India for many years, bridging the gap between MS Dhoni and Rishabh Pant. The 38-year-old has had a stellar IPL 2023 season for Gujarat Titans and according to Kumble, he should have made it to the final WTC squad.

“Look at Wriddhiman Saha behind the stumps, he has been brilliant this season, not only behind the stumps but also in front of the stumps for Gujarat Titans. He has been very consistent, he goes unnoticed behind the stumps but he is one of the best wicketkeepers in India,” Kumble said on JioCinema’s Insider Feed show.

“I think the selectors missed a trick for the World Test Championship (final), he is someone who should be a part of that team. I know KS Bharath is in the team, he has done well whenever he has got a chance, but Riddhi Saha has been brilliant behind the stumps and has done exceptionally well with his bat whenever he has got a chance.”

Rahul recently revealed that he has successfully undergone surgery and will make a comeback for the Indian team as he begins his road to recovery.
