Former Uttar Pradesh minister Singh Yadav, former foreign minister in the UPA government SM Krishna and tabla maestro Zakir Hussain have been selected for the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second highest civilian honour. It has been announced to give Padma Vibhushan to 6, Padma Bhushan to 9 and Padma Shri to 91. An official statement has been issued on the eve of Republic Day. Along with Nomination Singh Yadav, Dr. Dilip Mahalanabis and renowned architect Balkrishna Doshi have been selected for the Padma Vibhushan posthumously. This year, no name has been announced for the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted and congratulated the Padma awardees. “The nation acknowledges his rich and varied contribution to India and his efforts to pave the way for development,” he said.
