Anti-blasphemy law: AIMPLB opposes UCC, demands anti-blasphemy law India News – Times of India

New Delhi: All India Muslim Personal Law Board on Sunday demanded to make a law anti blasphemy law to punish those who show disrespect Prophet Muhammad and urged “holy religious figures” and the government not to attempt to impose uniform civil code, directly or indirectly.
The conservative Muslim body, which plays an important role in the affairs of the community, also demanded “legal action against communal and hostile posts on social media and against miscreants”. The demands are part of a resolution adopted at the two-day conference, which included about 200. had participated muslim board Members in Kanpur on Sunday.
The resolution highlights that “Respected Hindu, Sikh and other non-Muslim scholars have consistently acknowledged the greatness of the Prophet Muhammad. By the same token, in line with the teachings of IslamMuslims have also refrained from attributing any derogatory words about respectable persons of other religions. However, it is very regrettable that recently some mischievous persons have openly insulted the Prophet Muhammad while the government has not taken any preventive steps in this regard.” The attitude is completely unacceptable.”
AIMPLB demanded from the government that those showing disrespect towards holy religious figures should be punished. SQR Ilyas, convener of AIMPLB’s Committee on Religious and Cultural Freedom Protection and Personal Laws, said, “The government should enact effective legislation to deal with the issue.” The proposal did not name any religious person other than Prophet Muhammad.
On Uniform Civil Code, the conservative body said, “UCC is neither suitable nor useful for a vast multi-religious country like India.” AIMPLB also said that there has been “poisonous propaganda” against Muslims over the years.
