Anti-India slogans on the wall of Swaminarayan temple, India asks Canada to take action against criminals

Ottawa: Unknown miscreants ransacked the walls of the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan (BAPS) temple in Canada and raised anti-India slogans. The Indian High Commission in Canada condemned the incident and took up the issue with the Canadian authorities to investigate the matter and take prompt action against the perpetrators. India in Canada tweeted, “We strongly condemn the desecration of BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir Toronto with anti-India graffiti. Request the Canadian authorities to investigate the incident and take swift action against the perpetrators.”

A video of the incident went viral on social media, where Khalistani slogans are seen written on the walls of the temple. Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown expressed his dismay at the incident, saying, “Very disappointed to hear about the vandalism at BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Toronto. This type of hatred has no place in the GTA or in Canada. Let’s hope those The criminals responsible are brought to justice quickly,” he tweeted.

Canada’s Indian-origin Member of Parliament Chandra Arya said that this is not just such an incident but Hindu temples have been targeted by such events in recent times. “The vandalism of the Toronto BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Temple by Canadian Khalistani extremists should all be condemned. This is not just an isolated incident. Hindu temples in Canada have been targeted by these types of hate crimes in recent times. Hindu Canadian legalized Deeply concerned,” Arya tweeted.
