An anti-vax Czech folk singer has died after she intentionally contracted Covid to obtain a health pass that allowed her to visit the sauna and theatre, her family said.

Proof of vaccination or recent infection is required for cultural and sporting facilities as well as for travel to and visiting bars and restaurants in the EU member state, which is facing a rising COVID count.

Hana Horka, the vocalist of the Assonance band, died on Sunday at the age of 57, according to her son, Jan Reck.

Rake told public radio iRozhlas.cz that she voluntarily exposed herself to the virus when her husband and son, both vaccinated, caught it before Christmas.

“She decided to continue living with us as usual and preferred to catch the disease than to be vaccinated,” he said on Monday.

Two days before her death, Horka said on social media: “I survived … it was intense.”

“So now the theatre, the sauna, a concert … and a must-visit to the sea will be there,” she said.

Rake blamed the death on a local anti-vax movement, saying that its leaders had convinced her mother against vaccination and thus had “blood on her hands”.

Rake said, “I know what influenced her… It makes me sad that she trusts strangers more than her family.”

“It was not just completely misinformation, but also an idea of natural immunity and antibodies acquired through infection,” he said.

The country of 10.7 million people announced more than 20,000 new Covid infections on Tuesday.
