APM Terminal Pipavav loads 100th LPG rake within 10 months of operation

“APM Terminal Pipavav is one of the few ports in the country to have LPG rail siding within the port that can accommodate the placement of full rakes that carry around 1,200 metric tonnes of LPG cargo which is equivalent to 66 gas tankers on the road ,” the private port operator said in a release.

APM Terminals Pipavav said, on Thursday, it has loaded its 100th LPG rake within 10 months of operation through an LPG rake handling facility set up jointly with Aegis Logistics Limited.

The private port operator said in a release, “Since the commissioning of the rake handling capacity in January this year, the port has provided a dedicated DFC-compliant rail line for safe and fast evacuation of LPG, thereby reducing the dependence on road movement. has diminished.”

The evacuation of the 100th LPG rake in such a short span of time is a testament to our operational excellence. Jacob Fris Sorenson, Managing Director, APM Terminals Pipavav, said, “Technological advancements enable automated rake handling to reduce manual intervention thereby improving cargo turnaround times.

“With the strong demand for LPG envisaged, the port believes that faster clearance of LPG by rail will provide a quick and environment-friendly option for LPG importing companies,” he added.

Oil PSUs Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited are the major importers of LPG.

A gateway port for containers, RO/RO (passenger cars), liquid and dry bulk cargo, the port caters to the north-western region of the country from Gujarat.

It is connected to the north and west of the hinterland via rail and road networks.

The port is a part of the global terminal network of APM terminals and its current annual cargo handling capacity includes 1.35 million TEU containers, 250,000 passenger cars, 2 million metric tons of liquid bulk and 4 million metric tons of dry bulk.
