Apple executive deletes Twitter account: Is there a war going on?

November 22, 2022
Sezarr

Apple senior executive Phil Schiller has deactivated his Twitter account. While the exact reasons behind the decision are not known, it is likely that the exit is a response to Elon Musk’s Twitter acquisition. Schiller left the position of head of marketing in 2020 and is now responsible for the Apple App Store and Apple Events.

Phil Schiller joins Twitter in 2008. He maintained his Twitter account for 14 years before shutting it down. The account has over 2,00,000 followers. He used his Twitter account to promote Apple services, products and devices. He also tweets about fast cars and James Bond movies.

In a later edition of his PowerOne newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman explained that a battle could develop between Twitter, Apple and google. After a poor start, Twitter plans to relaunch the Twitter Blue subscription plan on November 29 at $8 per month, with the platform planning to become ‘more of a subscription business’. This, he says, sets the stage for another challenge: Apple Inc.’s handling of fees and content. and Alphabet Inc. Possible standoff with Google.

The new Twitter Blue costs $3 more per month than the previous version. If the rollout goes well, it will generate more revenue not only for Twitter but also for both the tech giants. This is because both Apple and Google charge developers a commission on subscriptions purchased on their platforms. While Google takes a 15% cut, Apple’s slice is almost double that – 30%. Fees, therefore, could put Twitter’s new CEO Elon Musk at odds with App Store operators.

The billionaire has previously criticized Apple’s fees, calling them a “tax on the internet” and saying it should be “10 times higher”. He recently tweeted, “App Store fees are apparently too high due to the iOS/Android monopoly”.

Apple has been at loggerheads with other developers in the past over App Store fees.

Recently, Apple CEO Tim Cook shared his thoughts on Elon Musk taking over Twitter. In an interview with CBS Morning, he remarked that he hoped Twitter would continue to uphold its moderation standard under Musk’s leadership. Asked what the recent changes mean for Apple-Twitter relations, Cook said: “They say they’re going to continue to moderate, and so I trust them to do that because I don’t think they will.” That nobody really wants hate speech.” on their stage.”
