Apple’s upcoming AR/VR headset As per a report in The Information, the device may come with a total of 14 cameras that will enable a lifetime avatar of the user. Each of these cameras will reportedly track the user’s face to display the correct facial expressions and mouth movements in the AI avatars.
The report also stated that the former Apple Design chief johnny ive Has been involved with the headset project in an external advisory role and is more inclined towards headset design in which the user has to wear a battery attached to the headset, as in Magic Leap’s headset design. However, the report also noted that “it cannot be learned whether this approach will make it into the final design.”
“A person familiar with the matter said that for the consultancy work of Ive Apple Since he left, it’s included the headset, saying he’s often brought on his former team of engineers to help them through their priorities in areas like battery, camera placement and ergonomics. Two people said that even after Ive left Apple, some employees on the headset project were still required to make the trek from Cupertino to San Francisco, where Ive is home, to get their approval on the changes. The report said.
The report further states that Apple is not focusing the headset toward gaming and may use “in combination with finger clips like hand tracking or clothespins” as inputs for the device.
