Apple plans to place ads in the Today tab of its App Store

New Delhi: American tech giant Apple is planning to show ads in the Today tab of the App Store and on different app pages. According to The Verge, MacRumors, 9to5Mac, and AppleInsider suggest that the two new ad placements will expand on ads you may already see in the App Store’s Search tab and search results. Ads in the Today tab will appear in the large card format used by other content in that tab, but you’ll see a small blue box with the word ‘Ads’ under the name of the app. Ads in individual app pages will appear under the ‘You might also like’ header, which suggests apps related to the app you’re viewing.

Like App Store search, ads on app pages will be highlighted in blue to differentiate them from other recommendations. According to 9to5Mac, ad shoppers will not be able to target specific apps to these ads, but the ads will be relevant to the app they serve. He adds, “Like our other ad offerings, these new ad placements are built on the same foundation – they will only contain the content of approved App Store product pages for apps, and will adhere to the same rigorous privacy standards.”

The company plans to start testing the new ads soon. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

According to The Verge, Apple first began showing ads in App Store search results in 2016 and began asking users for permission to enable personalized ads in September.
